Westland All-OCC Forward JJ Smith Signs with OCU
COLUMBUS, OH - Head Coach Tony Stockman is happy to announce the addition of JJ Smith to the OCU Men's Basketball Team. Smith was a standout forward and captain at Westland High School where he played for head coach Todd Parker.
Smith signed his letter intent in front of family and friends at the Westland High School auditorium on Wednesday.
The southpaw forward is a versatile player with a very broad skill set that can play almost any position on the floor.
Smith enjoyed a strong senior season, leading Westland to an 18-7 record and a strong showing in the state tournament. Smith tallied 15.1 points and 12.2 rebounds per game in his senior campaign. Smith took home 1st Team All-OCC honors while also being honored as a Central Ohio All-District selection.
"We really like the way he plays the game," said OCU Head Coach Tony Stockman. "He understands team basketball and has a gift for finishing at the rim. He is also very physical and can outrebound bigger players."
Smith joins an OCU prgram that is only one month removed from their first ever NCCAA National Championship. The Trailblazers will be setting out to defend their title when the season tips off in November in Cincinnati.
