OCU Defeats NAIA Georgetown College 2-1

GEORGETOWN, KY - OCU Soccer picked up their first win of the season on Saturday afternoon.  The Blazers went into their game with NAIA affiliate Georgetown College very focused after dropping a close game to Union College (Ky) on Friday night.

OCU got things started first as Trevor Kackley found the back of the net on the receiving end of a corner kick in the 9th minute.  OCU senior Emanuel Harris set Kackley up with a beautifully placed ball from the corner to give OCU the 1-0 advantage.

Georgetown responded in the 36th minute as Benjamin Aspillaga scored for the Tigers to tie the game at 1-1.  Both team would head into halftime with score knotted at 1-1.

OCU capitalized in the second half in the 51st minute to take the lead.  OCU senior Dave Blamo scored what proved to be the game winning goal with 39 minutes remaining in regulation.  Blamo scored the goal unassisted to give OCU a 2-1 lead.

Georgetown would rally in the closing minutes and had a good look to tie the game in extra time.  With just a few seconds remaining, a Georgetown shot struck the bar and bounced near the goal line, but it was ruled no goal by the officials, proving OCU victorious.

"This trip was a great experience for our guys," remarked OCU Head Coach Josh Murton.  "We are a young squad and we really took a lot from this weekend.  Picking up a quality win against Georgetown capped off a great weekend for us."
