Men's Soccer News
The men's soccer team lost their first game this year to Malone College 0-2. It was a tough opponent but a great opportunity for OCU to see how far we have come in 2 years. The Trailblazers are now 5-1-0 and will travel to St. Catharine's in Kentucky this Saturday.
The OCU men win their 5th game in a row, marking the second best win streak in OCU Men's history, second only to last years 6-0 start. The OCU men didn't do it quietly though as they gave up a 3-1 lead, to visiting Crown College, late in the game. In the 80th minute Crown scored on a rare lapse of the OCU defense and one minute later scored again on a phenomenal goal making it 3-3.
On July 6-8, Oho Christian University Soccer teamed up with Countryside Church of the Nazarene in Darbyville to put on a camp for the local youth. Over 40 kids attended in which they learned the basics of soccer and were "Kickin it with Jesus".
OCU Men soccer make another mark towards having a successful off-season by signing Lyon McCabe from Mid-State League Powerhouse, Fairfield Union. "Lyon played defense for Fairfield Union. I can see us using him in the same fashion. He's strong and a physical player which will help strengthen our defense" commented Coach Murton.
Ohio Christian's soccer programs both made significant signings this past week. The men signed highly touted Dave Blamo from Westland High School. Dave was sought after by Defiance College and Ohio Dominican, but OCU is where he is headed. "Dave is a big boost to our offense but more importantly he is a great young man. He is quiet but one of the more pleasant people I have been around.
Ohio Christian Men's Soccer signed another player in May by signing Stu Hostetter, a transfer from Ohio University. Stu was a defensive standout for Canal Winchester until his graduation in 2008. "I have been actively pursuing Stu since I came to OCU and to see this all come together marks a big day for OCU.
Canal Winchester High School has been a gold mine for OCU in signing soccer players. Earlier this year OCU signed defender, Blake Steinbrink to come play in the fall.
OCU men's soccer ink another local standout in Anthony Delong. Anthony, a Teays Valley '08 grad, will be transferring from Columbus State to OCU in the fall to add to an already strong team.
On February 20th, the OCU Men's soccer program made another move to secure it's future in NCCAA soccer elite programs.
On December 22nd, Ohio Christian University signed defensive standout Blake Steinbrink from Canal Winchester.
