OCU Loses to Taylor 84-70OCU came up short in the final minutes of a closely contested game against the defending USCAA National Champions from Taylor Fort Wayne on Friday night, losing 84-70. The first half was a defensive slugfest as both teams forced tough shots and turnovers. The Blazers went into halftime trailing 28-35. Taylor went on a 5-0 run to start the half and led 40-28 just one minute into the half. OCU regrouped after a timeout and went on a 12-0 run to tie the game at 40. Foul trouble then began to plague the Blazers as four players had four fouls early in the second half. Justin Thompson, Josh McGrady, and DJ Malone came off the bench and made strong contributions as OCU was forced to deal with the foul situation. OCU trailed by just 6 points late in the game but could not close the gap despite a strong effort. Chris Thompson led the way for OCU with a game high 28 points and 11 rebounds. Rob Lassiter added 17 points and 8 rebounds. "Turnovers in the game really hurt us tonight," said Coach Batten. "We gave up way too many possessions and they finished on the other end with layups. If we take care of the ball, I think this is a game that we win. I am proud of the intensity and the hustle that our guys had on the floor today, we just need to take care of the ball better and learn to value each and every possession." |
