OCU falls to NAIA Mid-Continent on the roadOhio Christian headed out to Mayfield, Kentucky on Saturday to take on NAIA Division I opponent, Mid-Continent University. MCU came into the game with a 9-1 overall record and proved to be too much for the Blazers. The first half was closely contested as Ohio Christian relied on it's fast break and transition game while Mid-Continent used solid three point shooting to make for a close opening period. OCU went into halftime trailing 36-46. The Blazers came out strong early on in the second half, scoring the first four points to make the score 40-46, but that is as close at it would get. Mid-Continent used their size and depth down the stretch to close out the game and eventually came away victorious 103-72. Chris Thompson had a spectacular performance, leading all scorers with a season high 37 points on 15 of 28 shooting. Dan Garnett added 13 points and 8 rebounds for OCU. Adam Polley contributed a double-double as he tallied 10 points and pulled down 13 rebounds. "We are adjusting to NAIA competition," said Coach Batten. "We are playing the toughest non-conference schedule this program has ever seen and we are competing. I see the team coming together and we are starting to get through some of those growing pains. Of course we would love to pull out some victories along the way but we think that playing this level of competition will pay off in February. We knew at the start of the season that these games would be a big challenge but in the end we will be a stronger team for it." |
