Trailblazers 2 and 0The Ohio Christian University men's basketball program started the season in a flurry. On Friday night the Blazers played against Southern State Junior College in Cincinnati. "The team came out a little timid at first," said Coach Christopher. "By half time we were down by five and went down as many as fourteen in the second half." At the ten minute mark the game began to turn around with a couple of key plays. Sophomore Stefan Vasiloff took a charge and freshman Mike Farrell hit two transition three pointers. From that point on, the Trailblazers were in control winning the contest with a score of 106-96. Six players ended the game in double figures, including freshmen guards Mike Ferrell with 22 points and 10 boards and Tim Baker with 16 points and 4 rebounds. On Saturday, OCU played Indian University East, now an NAIA division II team. "The guys started well and never slowed up" said Coach Christopher. "From the tip to the end the blazers led the entire way." The final was 120 to 93. "I have never had so many scoring options on one team before. We scored in transition, half court, and against their press." The Trailblazers shot an unheard of 71% from behind the arc, and had six players in double figures again. Sophomore forward Stefan Vasiloff came off the bench to score 20 points and pull down 10 boards. Senior forward Dan Garnett had 20 points and 7 boards. Senior guard Rob Lassiter led the team with 26 points and 8 steals. The Trailblazers travel to Lancaster on Tuesday night to play Ohio University Lancaster. |
