OCU Women Run To Victory, Men Come Up Short In Battle With Valley ForgeIn their first game at the new Leadership Center, the Ohio Christian University women's basketball team outgunned Valley Forge Christian College 78-49. Led by Michel Hughes's seven assists, 4 rebounds, and 28 points on 81% shooting, the Trailblazers jumped to a 14-0 lead and never looked back. Freshman Allison Welch added 14 points, 4 assists, and 4 steals, while Ande Renihan dished out 8 assists, along with 6 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 steals. OCU's stifling defense forced 27 turnovers, and their unselfish offense had 23 assists. Ten players scored, with the Lady Blazers shooting 49% from the field. OCU's second game of the classic was cancelled due to a power outage. Hughes and Welch were named to the All Tournament Team for the Tip-Off Classic. The Lady Trailblazers return to action on Tuesday when they host OSU-Newark at 5:30pm. The OCU men's basketball team defeated Washington Bible College on Friday night by a score of 112-60. The Trailblazers had five players in double figures, led by Tae Spell with 24 points. Stefan Vassilof finished with 21 points, and Tim Baker added 19. Yesterday, OCU faced a tough Valley Forge Christian College. Although the Blazers jumped out to a nice lead in the first half, Valley Forge fought back to cut the deficit to two at the half. In a back and forth battle the entire second half, Valley Forge finished on top by a score of 86-84. Stefan Vassilof led the Blazers' offensive attack with 23 points and 13 rebounds. Dan Garnett added 15 points and pulled down 6 rebounds for the Blazers, as well. Stefan Vassilof and Tae Spell were named to the All-Tournament Team. The Trailblazers return to action on Tuesday when they face NAIA Mount Vernon Nazarene University at 7:30, following the women's game against OSU-Newark. |
