Volleyball Weekend UpdateThe OCU volleyball team faced a tough OSU-Mansfield team on Friday. The Mavericks defeated the Trailblazers in three games (26-30, 15-20, and 27-30). Marlaina Shotksy finished the match with 13 kills, while Brittany Martin had 10 kills and 15 digs. Whitney Pontius added 29 assists in the match. Head Coach Wes Brothers said, "We came out flat. Our focus was off tonight and as a result, we were unable to organize any kind of offense. The team finally pulled it together in game three and had a 16-12 lead, however, we were unable to ride that momentum to a victory." On Saturday, the Lady Blazers bounced back, defeated Wright State-Lake in three games (30-27, 31-29, 30-16). Shotsky had 13 kills, and Whitney Pontius added 25 assists. The defense was led by Leslie Turner's 14 digs. Coach Brothers had this to say about the game: "This match was a good example of what it means to stay focused. Wright State-Lake challenged and tested our defense and we responded well. In game two, they tallied a 21-16 lead, however, we fought back and pulled out a nail biting 31-29 win. In game three, all the elements came together. The team's focus, hustle and communication were excellent." |
