OCU Volleyball Finishes Regular Season; Regional Tournament this WeekendThe OCU women's volleyball team finished out the regular season this week, defeating Appalachian Bible College on Monday in four games (30-18,30-21,22-30,30-24), and then falling to OSU-Marion in three games (26-30,27-30,23-30) on Tuesday. Marlaina Shotsky led the Lady Blazers with 28 kills and 27 digs, while Brittany Martin finished with 7 kills and 7 aces. Brianna Brown also had 7 kills. Head Coach Wes Brothers said, "It isn't easy to win at Appalachian Bible College. We came out strong in games one and two. The girls put together several solid offensive series against the Warriors. However, Appalachian was not ready to give up as they came out determined in the third game. ABC was hitting the ball extremely well and their defense was solid. We were able to refocus in the fourth and pull away to win game four and the match." On Tuesday, the Lady Blazers faced a tough OSU-Marion team. As a team in the match, OCU averaged 12.67 kills per game, had a 90% serve percentage, and 2.67 blocks per game, with a total of 664 digs. Marlaina Shotsky once again led the offensive attack with 18 kills, while Whitney Pontius totaled 30 assists. Head Coach Wes Brothers had this to say after the match: "Despite the loss, the team played a solid match. Whitney mixed up our offense keeping OSU-Marion on edge. We scored 10 more points in this match than in the previous one against OSU-Marion. OSU-Marion is a great offensive and defensive team and is ideal to play before we go into regionals." The Lady Trailblazers finished the regular season 12-0 in the region, with an 18-8 overall record. They will head to Johnson Bible College in Knoxville, Tennessee for the regional tournament this Friday and Saturday. |
