OCU Women's Volleyball Update

The Lady Trailblazers came up short on Monday night at OU-Lancaster. OCU lost in three close games (27-30, 27-30, 29-31). Ohio Christian was led by Marlaina Shotsky's 22 kills, and a season-high 28 digs. Brianna Brown added 9 kills, and setter Whitney Pontius tallied 35 assists for the match.

Head Coach Wes Brothers had this to say about the loss: "The Lady Cougars of OU-L were a tough team defensively. The score reflects just how much of a back and forth battle this match was. We were able to find openings, but putting the ball away consistently was difficult. The Cougars definitely made us a better team and helped us increase our mental toughness."

The Lady Blazers bounced back on Tuesday when they hosted OU-Chillicothe. They won in three straight games (30-21, 30-18, 30-25), led again by Shotsky's 17 kills and 12 digs. Sophomore Brittany Martin contributed 15 kills and 8 digs. Freshman Sarah O'Connor totaled a season-high 5 aces, and Whitney Pontius averaged 12.33 assists in each of the three games.

Coach Brothers said, "We really came together tonight and the ladies did a great job of communicating. Brittany had a great offensive and defensive game. Sarah O'Conner served very aggressively, and Vanessa Baker came off the bench and had some good blocks. Whitney ran a great offense tonight and ended the match with 37 assists. This was another good team win for us!" OCU has the weekend off and then will travel to Great Lakes Christian College on Monday for a tri-match with Grace Bible College.
