Lady Blazers pick up two more regional wins

The Lady Trailblazers rolled to two more regional wins this weekend when they traveled to Johnson Bible College and Crown College. On Friday, OCU defeated JBC in three straight games, with Marlaina Shotsky tallying 21 kills, while Katie Baird had 10 kills and 6 aces. Sophomore Brittany Martin added 8 kills, 4 aces, and 14 digs.

Head Coach Wes Brothers said, "Although we started slow, the team maintained good focus overall and pressed the attack. There were several good rallies during the match and the girls showed great poise through each one."

On Saturday, the Lady Blazers earned their third regional win of the season by defeating Crown in three straight games. OCU was again led by Marlaina Shotsky with 11 kills and a team-high 9 digs. Brittany Martin added 7 kills and 6 aces, while Brianna Brown contributed 4 kills and 3 aces.

Coach Brothers had this to say about the match: "Crown made a lot of mistakes in the first game and we were able to capitalize on those. The second and third games were what we expected from Crown College as they kept the ball alive and served aggressively. Our team did a good job of getting back to base defensively and transitioning into offense. This win was definitely a team effort. Leslie Turner and Brianna Brown both stepped up during this match to provide excellent serve receive and more offense respectively to help the team to this third regional win."
