OCU Volleyball Continues Undefeated Streak in Regional PlayThe Lady Trailblazers defeated Freewill Baptist Bible College on Saturday in three games. Marlaina Shotsky led OCU with 8 kills, 8 aces, and 8 digs, while Brittany Martin had 5 kills, 7 digs, and 2 aces. Head Coach Wes Brothers said, "We kept our level of intensity up during this match and continued to refine our offensive attack." On Tuesday, Ohio Christian travelled to OSU-Marion, and lost in three games. Brittany Martin led the Lady Blazers with 15 kills, while Whitney Pontius had 26 assists. Coach Brothers said, "In the first game of the match, the team came out strong and had a 24-20 lead. However, we sat back with that four point lead and OSU-Marion took advantage. We came out flat and lacking mental focus in the second game. We got down early in the third game, but the team refused to give up, fighting back to a tie at 25-25. Despite the loss, the girls showed some serious heart and team unity." The Lady Blazers bounced back on Wednesday night when they travelled to Kentucky Christian and defeated the Lady Knights in an exciting four-game match. OCU lost the first game, but then won three in a row to earn their straight victory in NCCAA Mid-East Regional play. Marlaina Shotsky had a season-high 27 kills, along with 6 aces and 5 blocks. Brittany Martin added 10 kills, while Brianna Brown contributed 6 kills and 4 aces. Freshman Katie Baird chipped in 5 kills and 4 blocks as well. Coach Brothers had this to say about the match: "Despite the first game loss, we were able to maintain the level of intensity and focus needed to come out on top. Katie Baird had a turning point play in the third game with a block that brought the momentum back to our side. Overall, the team passed the ball well on serve receive and made adjustments on defense as the game progressed. This win was another team victory where everyone contributed." The Lady Trailblazers will host Johnson Bible College on Friday and Crown College on Saturday in the Campus Leadership Center. |
