OCU Women's Volleyball Undefeated in Region

The Ohio Christian University women's volleyball team is continued their undefeated streak in NCCAA Mid-East Region play (8-0) this weekend when they hosted Johnson Bible College and Crown College in the new Campus Leadership Center. OCU defeated Johnson in three games (30-15, 30-27, 30-28), with Marlaina Shotsky tallying 24 kills, 3 aces and 15 digs. Richelle Stewart led the defensive stand with 19 digs. Head Coach Wes Brothers said, "We played a solid game of volleyball on both the offensive and defensive sides. A combination of the home crowd and sheer determination on the part of the Lady Trailblazers carried us to a victory."

On Saturday, OCU defeated Crown College in four games (30-25, 30-21, 20-30, 30-22). Marlaina Shotsky led the Lady Blazers again, with 26 kills, 4 aces and 18 digs. Brittany Martin added 14 kills and 12 digs, while Whitney Pontius tallied 37 assists for the match. Coach Brothers was pleased with the team's improvements on defense and overall focus throughout the match.

Ohio Christian is breezing through the region, winning six of its eight matches in three straight games. Led by middle hitter Marlaina Shotsky, Ohio Christian hopes to keep their streak going as they continue regional play in October. Shotsky has totaled a team-high 166 kills in 11 matches so far this season, as well as serving up a team-high 33 aces. She also leads the team with 158 digs. Sophomore Brittany Martin has contributed 95 kills and 18 aces, while freshman Katie Baird leads the team with 16 blocks. Senior setter Whitney Pontius has tallied 262 assists already this season.

The Lady Trailblazers (8-3 overall) has a busy week of competition ahead of them. On Monday, they will travel to OU-Chillicothe. Then on Tuesday, OCU will host Cincinnati Christian University for another NCCAA Mid-East Region match-up. The Lady Blazers will be on the road again on Friday and Saturday when they travel to OSU-Mansfield and Wright State-Lake, respectively.
