The OCU Trailblazers lost a tightly contested match in 4 sets to the Cougars of UC-Clermont 25-11, 23-25, 19-25, 24-26. Freshman Ashley Southard led the team with 9 kills. Junior Kristen Uetrecht tallied 5 blocks and Freshman Tiffany Mosher had a season high 26 digs. "We continue to have great energy in that first set," stated Coach Wes Brothers.
The Men Soccer team traveled to Mt. Hope, WV and defeated the Warriors of Appalachian Bible College 5-1. The win places the OCU men with a 9-6-0 record. In the region the move to 7-0-0 this season and 22-3-1 over the past 3 years. Not bad seeing OCU was 7-50-1 before that mark in the region.
The Ohio Christian University Trailblazers won in 3 sets over the Mavericks of OSU-Mansfield 25-7, 25-21, 25-21. Seven different Trailblazers contributed kills in this victory with Freshman Ashley Southard and Sophomore Hillary Stump leading the way with 7 kills each. Southard and Freshman Tiffany Mosher led the team with 3 aces a piece.
Ohio Christian University nearly pulled off a victory in the 5 set loss to Ohio State University - Marion with scores of 25-21, 28-30, 14-25, 25-19, 12-15. Junior Kristen Uetrecht and Freshmen Ashley Southard contributed 12 and 11 kills respectively. Southard led the team with 5 aces.
OCU soccer finished a long road trip which started in Atlanta, GA; then to Toccoa Falls, GA. A stop at Knoxville, TN before a trip to Anderson, IN. OCU has not played an NCAA team since playing Ohio Valley University in 2007 and would be the first match up for an OCU team coached by Josh Murton.
OCU Volleyball loses to IU Northwest Ohio Christian University lost in three sets to the Red Hawks 16-25, 21-25, 18-25. Sophomore Meredith Fairrow matched her season high 32% hitting percentage and co-led the team with Linette Shetler earning 7 kills each. Freshman Mary Ashbaucher led the offense with 26 assists.
With no time left on the clock, Jorge Aldalla hit an in-direct free kick right on toip of the penalty area to send the OCU men off with a 1-0 win in double overtime over regional foe, Crown College. The men's soccer program came out not backing down to the #1 team in the nation, Clearwater Christian. At half, the score was 0-0 to continue the scoreless minutes started in 2009 between the two teams to 155 minutes. In 2009, both OCU and Clearwater faced each other in the National Semi-Finals only to lose in PK's.
