Blazers Defeat NCCAA Champs 72-68 in Overtime

CIRCLEVILLE, OH - The Ohio Christian University women's basketball team faced the defending National Christian College Athletic Association national champions on Tuesday night and came away with a thrilling victory in overtime.

The Trailblazers (15-10) clenched their teeth and clawed out a 72-68 overtime victory over the team with last season’s big trophy to claim their sixth win in seven outings.

“Tonight, in the second half, we had the defensive intensity we need,” Trailblazers coach Mandy Wray said. “When we played there, we just didn’t show up and we got beat. This time we focused on what we needed to do and didn’t let them get into their offensive sets.”

Nine different Blazers reached the scoring column as Shelby Roe led the way with 19, as 15 of those scores hit the hole from beyond the three point arc. Asia Woodson dropped in 14 and Olivia Davis handled the glass, snaring 11 rebounds.

“We’ve got a sense of confidence right now,” Wray added. “We’re on a streak, we’re playing well, we beat the national champs, and the regional tournament is at our place (Maxwell Center). We just need to keep our intensity up and not get complacent at either end of the floor. We’ll be tough if we do that.”

OCU is back in action on Thursday night when they host OU-Chillicothe for a 6:00 PM contest.
