Lady Blazers advance to 10-0

The Ohio Christian University women's basketball team traveled to Toccoa Falls, Georgia over the weekend to face two NCCAA opponents.  On Friday, OCU defeated Toccoa Falls Christian College 76-44.  Freshman guard Shelby Roe led a balanced OCU attack with 14 points.  All of the Lady Blazers scored in the game.

On Saturday, OCU defeated #5 ranked Atlanta Christian College 69-54.  Freshman guard Dannyel Butte led OCU with 19 points, 10 rebounds, 6 steals, and 5 assists.  Senior All-American guard Brenda Carter chipped in 15 points and 5 rebounds.  Junior Angela Thorne also stepped up big for the Lady Blazers.  Although outsized at only 5'7, Thorne pulled down 17 rebounds and chipped in 12 points.  Roe also contributed 14 points.

The wins over the weekend advanced the OCU women's basketball team to an undefeated 10-0, a school record for the best start in a season.  Head Coach Mandy Wray said, "I was really proud of the way our girls played this weekend.  We had a long trip and had to play two games with very little turn-around.  But they really stepped up to the challenge and played hard.  Our defensive pressure is really improving, and it's great to see different people step up each night and contribute."

The OCU women will travel to Grand Rapids, Michigan on Friday and Saturday for two more NCCAA games, including a potential match-up with last year's NCCAA National Runner-up Southwestern Christian University.
