Lady Blazers Come up Short to NCCAA National Champs 78-59

GRAYSON, KY - The OCU Lady Trailblazers headed south to Kentucky on Tuesday to take on the defending NCCAA Champions from Kentucky Christian University. The host nights took an early 6-2 lead before the Blazers battled back to tie the game at 8-8. KCU handled the OCU defensive pressure and was able to build a small lead. The Blazers headed into halftime trailing by 9 points with the score 33-24.
OCU worked hard in the second half but the Knights managed to keep a comfortable double digit lead throughout. Behind a game high 21 points from Tanya Bowens, KCU pushed their lead to as many as 20 points. The final horn eventually sounded with the final score at 78-59, in favor of KCU.
OCU was led by freshman guard Asia Woodson who scored a team high 14 points while also swiping 3 steals. Freshman forward Olivia Davis added 8 points while grabbing a team high 6 rebounds.
The Blazers are now 9-9 on the season and will host the Cougars of UC-Clermont on Friday at 6:00 PM. UC-Clermont won the first matchup on a last second buzzer beater back on November 30th, winning by a score of 61-60.
