Lady Blazers Down OU-Chillicothe

The Lady Trailblazers came out blazing on Wednesday, jumping to an early first half lead of 24-5.  But foul trouble plagued the OCU women, and the Lady Hilltoppers fought their way back with a run of their own.  Ohio Christian had a 33-27 lead at halftime, and their pressure was too much for OU-Chillicothe in the second half, as they won 78-53.  The Lady Trailblazers had a balanced attack, led by senior All-American Brenda Carter with 20 points on 8/12 shooting.  Several freshman also contributed in a big way.  Freshmen Asia Glenn, Shelby Roe, and Dannyel Butte had 12, 11, and 9 points, respectively, and Kristen Hughes provided a defensive spark with 4 steals.  Junior forward Angela Thorne also added 12 points and 9 rebounds, and freshman point guard Courtney Schilling dished out 10 assists.
"We started and finished the game pretty well tonight.  We had a let-up late in the first half and allowed them back in the game.  But overall, we had good contributions from a number of people, which is what our team is all about this year.  We need to continue to work hard to improve and get better at playing pressure defense without fouling," said head coach Mandy Wray.
The OCU women (3-0) host Kent State-Tuscarawas on Saturday at noon.  The Trailblazers, in conjunction with the Operation Christmas Child project, are offering free admission to anyone who brings a toy to donate to Operation Christmas Child.  For more information, please contact Mandy Wray, Director of Athletics, at mwray@ohiochristian.edu.
