Lady Blazers Fall Short at UC-Clermont

The OCU women's basketball team traveled to UC-Clermont on Tuesday to take on UC-Clermont.  The first half was fast-paced and packed with offense, with the Cougars taking a 49-47 halftime lead over the Lady Blazers.  In the second half, UC-Clermont made a run and went up by 14 with 7 minutes left in the game.  But the Lady Blazers fought back and went on a run of their own, cutting the lead to three points with 16 seconds left.  OCU had two shots to tie it, but came up short, with a final score of 81-84.

Freshman guard Shelby Roe and junior forward Danielle Fleming led the Lady Blazers with 21 points each.  Senior guard Brenda Carter chipped in 18 points, while junior forward Angela Thorne led the Lady Blazers in rebounding with 12 boards.

The loss puts the Lady Blazers at 19-4 overall, and 5-2 in the OCAC conference.  The OCU women will travel to OU-Eastern on Thursday for another tough match-up.

Head Coach Mandy Wray said, "This was a good game for us and was much-needed.  It was good to be in a situation at the end of a game like this where we had two shots to tie it.  We haven't seen a lot of teams this year that can match our athleticism and speed, so it was a good test for us.  It showed us what areas we need to improve on if we want to be successful the rest of the season and make it to the National Tournament."
