Lady Blazers Finish as Mid-East Region Runner-Up; Earn 5th Seed at National Tournament

CIRCLEVILLE, OH - Ohio Christian battled with Kentucky Christian University for the third time this year on Saturday afternoon and came up short to finish as Runner-Up in the Mid-East Region.
KCU took a commanding first half lead and went into halftime leading by a dozen with the score at 35-23. The host Trailblazers fought back courageously in the second half, erasing the deficit and taking a one point lead with 11 minutes remaining in the game.
The OCU comeback was short lived however as KCU regained the lead. Trailing by 8 points, OCU was forced to foul down the stretch as KCU went on to win the game 76-62.
Ohio Christian was forced to play the game without freshman phenom Olivia Davis, who sat out with an injury. Asia Woodson led the OCU charge with a team high 25 points. Tanya Bowens from KCU led all scorers with a game high 30 points.
All-Region honors were announced after the game and six Lady Blazers received All-Region recognition. Asia Woodson and Shelby Roe were named 1st Team All-Region, Kara Zwick and Olivia Davis received 2nd Team honors, while Chelsea Black and Te-Asia Smith received Honorable Mention.
On Sunday afternoon, OCU was awarded the 5th seed in the NCCAA National Tournament which will be held at OCU on March 7th - 9th.
OCU will open up the tournament with Trinity Baptist College from Florida. Trinity enters the tournament representing the South Region. The game will tip at 6:00 PM on Thursday, March 7th, in the Maxwell Leadership Center.
