Lady Blazers Make History With 20th Win

The Ohio Christian University women's basketball team made history on Thursday when they defeated the #1 team in the ORCC (Ohio Regional Campus Conference) Ohio University-Eastern 79-75.  The win was OCU's 20th of the season, which is a feat that no other team in the history of the women's basketball program has reached at Ohio Christian.

The Lady Blazers jumped out to an early lead and led 46-32 at half-time.  But foul trouble plagued the Lady Blazers, and OU-Eastern was able to chip away at the lead and cut it to three points in the final minute.  OCU had  players in double figures.  Senior All-American guard Brenda Carter led OCU with 20 points, while freshman guard Dannyel Butte added 14 points and had a team high 7 steals.  Freshman guard Shelby Roe chipped in 14 points and dished out 4 assists.  Junior forward Danielle Fleming added 13 points and a team high 12 rebounds. Junior forward Angela Thorne had another solid game with 11 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals.

With the win, OCU (ranked #3 in the NCCAA National poll) advanced to 20-4, the best record in the history of the women's basketball program.  Head Coach Mandy Wray said, "I'm very proud of what the girls have been able to accomplish so far this season.  But we know that the season is far from over, and our goal is to get to the National Tournament.  We will keep working hard and trying to improve, and hopefully we will still be playing in Philadelphia in March at the National Tournament."
