Lady Blazers Win Conference Championship

The Lady Blazers traveled to World Harvest Bible College this weekend for the Ohio Collegiate Athletic Conference (OCAC) Tournament.  On Friday, OCU (#1 seed) faced #4 seed World Harvest Bible College and won 71-52.  Freshman guard Dannyel Butte led the Trailblazers in scoring with 18 points and seven rebounds. Senior guard Brenda Carter also chipped in 17 points.  On Saturday, Ohio Christian took on Southern State Community College in the OCAC Championship Game.  In an ugly game, with 40 fouls called, OCU won 69-62.  Carter led all scorers with 30 points.  Junior forward chipped in 17 points and grabbed 6 rebounds, while Dannyel Butte pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds in the game.

Senior guard Brenda Carter and freshman guard Dannyel Butte were named to the OCAC All-Tournament Team.  At the OCAC Banquet, several Lady Trailblazers were honored and named to the All-Conference Teams.  Carter was named the OCAC Player of the Year and 1st Team All-OCAC, while freshman guard Shelby Roe, injured in Friday's game, was crowned Freshman of the Year and received 2nd Team All-OCAC.  Fleming and Butte also received 2nd Team All-OCAC recognition. 

Head Coach Mandy Wray, OCAC Coach-of-the-Year, said "I am so proud of our girls.  They have made alot of history this year, including the most recent first-ever Conference Title."  OCU travels to Knoxville, Tennessee this weekend for the Mid-East Region Championship against Kentucky Christian University.  The winer of that game qualifies for the NCCAA National Tournament in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
