OCU Wins in Chicago to Move to 3-1 on Season
CHIGAGO, IL - The OCU women's basketball team headed to the windy city of Chicago for a weekend tournament at Moody Bible Institute and came away with a win and a loss in what proved to be a very beneficial weekend for the Trailblazers.
OCU got things kicked off in style on Friday night as they overcame a poor shooting night to beat the host school, Moody Bible Institute 63-60. Ohio Christian shot just 1 of 23 from three point line in the game and had a slugglish first half but came out in the 2nd half and pulled out the win against a very talented Moody team. The win was the third straight win for the Trailblazers who have pulled out three straight close wins.
After beating Moody on Friday night, the Trailblazers advanced to the tournament championship where they took on Trinity Christian College, an NAIA program that had defeated Asbury University 70-65 on Friday. OCU gave the NAIA school all they could handle in the contest as they trailed by only 3 points with just one minute left with the score 71-68. With time running out, OCU was forced to put Trinity at the foul line where they converted free throws to close the door on OCU. Trinity went on to win the game 75-68 in what proved to be a great tournament championship game.
OCU was lights out from three as they shot 61% as a team against Trinity. Dannyel Butt was selected to the All-Tournament Team as she tallied 21 points in the championship game. Kara Zwick owned the middle as the scored 16 points and hauled in 10 rebounds.
The Trailblazers are now 3-1 on the season and will travel to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to take part in the Hersha Hospitality Classic at Valley Forge Christian College this weekend.
