Blazers Lose Heartbreaker to Anderson 2-1

CIRCLEVILLE, OH - The OCU women's soccer team had stellar performances from Heidi Bryan and Amy Hardbarger on Wednesday night but were outdone by Anderson University in overtime.  Anderson capitalized on a penalty kick in the overtime period to win the game 2-1.

Heidi Bryan struck first for OCU as she scored on a goal in the 48th minute.  Natalie Boyer assisted on the goal to give OCU a 1-0 lead early in the second half.  Anderson bounced back late in the half to score to tie the game at 1-1 in the 76th minute.

In overtime, the Trailblazers faced adversity as a handball in the box led to a penalty kick 18 minutes into the extra session.  Anderson converted the penalty kick to win the game 2-1.  OCU faced a lot of adversity in the game with two goals being called back due to very close offsides calls.

"Tonight was a tough loss," said Coach Murton. "Anytime it comes down to a PK golden goal it hurts. But our ladies have really improved over the week and our assistant James McIlhargey is doing some really good things in getting these girls to come together. I really believe in these girls and I think we will do well in the weeks ahead."

Anderson outshot OCU 19-6 in the contest.  Amy Hardbarger played a great game in goal of OCU as she tallied 11 saves on the night.  OCU is back in action on Saturday when they take on Kentucky Christian University on Senior Day.
