Clutch Plays By Shiray Rally Blazers Past #1 Clark State
SPRINGFIELD, OH - Clark State came into the OCAC tournament as the #1 seed, having beaten OCU four times in the regular season. Clark State jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning and looked primed and ready to make it 5 straight wins over the Blazers, but Taylor Shiray had other plans. In the 3rd inning, and OCU trailing 2-0, Shiray stepped up to the plate with a runner on. She stepped up big by blasting an RBI double to close the margin to 2-1. She followed that up by stealing both third base and home plate to tie the score at 2-2.
Meanwhile, Makenna Jennings was working her magic on the mound. Jennings struck out six Clark State batters from the 2nd inning on to keep the game close. She shutdown the Clark State bats, allowing no runs after the intial 2-0 burst in the 1st inning.
After three staight scoreless innings and the score tied at 2-2 in the 7th inning, Shiray would once again step up to the pate at crunch time. Shiray put an end to the pitchers duel with one swing of the bat, as she connected on a game winning hit that plated Kaitlyn Howard for the game winning run.
OCU is now one win away from claiming their first ever OCAC Championship. The Blazers have advanced to the championship round undefeated and will await the winner of Clark State vs UC Clermont. The double elimination tournament will be decided on Saturday, with OCU playing their first game at 12:00PM.
