Softball Enjoying Best Start Ever with 4-0 Mark in OCAC
CIRCLEVILLE, OH - After going 2-36 in its first two varsity seasons, the Ohio Christian Trailblazer Softball team is off to its best season start ever. Currently the Trailblazers hold an overall 8-8 record, with a 4-0 record in the Ohio Collegiate Athletic Conference. The Trailblazers have earned victories over Alice Lloyd College, OSU-Newark, and OCAC rivals UC-Clermont and Southern State Community College.
During the first statistical reporting period of the National Christian College Athletic Association the Trailblazers earned a place in the top 25 teams in the Association along with several national rankings in team statistics. The Trailblazers also had several players who earned national rankings in individual statistical categories.
As a team the Trailblazers have posted a .264 batting average scoring 87 runs on 104 hits. The Trailblazers have also swiped 73 bases from their opponents. Defensively, the Trailblazers have held their opponents to a .250 batting average and 58 runs scored.
Sophomore MacKenna Jennings has led the Trailblazers on both sides of the game. Offensively, Jennings has a .521 batting average with 15 runs scored on 25 hits with 8 doubles, 1 homerun, and 15 runs batted in. In addition she has a total of 11 stolen bases.
Defensively, Jennings has a perfect fielding record with no errors in 37 chances. On the mound, Jennings has maintained a 2.77 Earned Run Average facing 402 batters and only giving up 36 earned runs, 56 total runs. In the first sixteen games of the season Jennings has already earned 60 strikeouts. With nineteen games remaining on the regular season schedule she is only seven strikeouts away from breaking her own single season record set in 2011.
The Trailblazers will be in action again on Wednesday, April 11th, when OCU travels to Cedarville University. The game is set for a 3:30pm start.
