Trailblazer Softball Signs Shroder High School Infielder PaLaura Parker

The Ohio Christian University Trailblazer softball program is pleased to announce our most recent signee for the 2010-2011 season. PaLaura Parker will come to OCU following an interesting career as a baseball player at Shroder High School in Cincinnati, OH. Shroder High School did not have a softball program, so according to her high school baseball coach, PaLaura went out for the baseball team and after only three games had earned a starting spot at second base. PaLaura was selected to the All League honorable mention team for her league this year. She was also selected to play in the RBI (Reviving Baseball in the Inner Cities) Program last summer. RBI is a national program sponsored by Major League Baseball to promote participation in baseball programs among inner city youth.

PaLaura also plays summer softball for the Bustos Ultimates 18U softball team out of Cincinnati. For the Ultimates she plays both short stop and second base. "I have had the opportunity to watch PaLaura play this summer. She will add a lot of defensive depth and strength to our middle infield no matter which side of second base she ends up on," said head softball coach Emory Clark.

PaLaura will also add to the hitting lineup for the Trailblazers. So far this summer, in 31 at bats, she has maintained a .548 batting average with 4 bases on balls, 15 base hits, 2 doubles, 9 runs scored and another 6 runs batted in. She has only been struck out seven times. "PaLaura is quick. If she can get the ball down safely on the dirt the defense will have a difficult time throwing her out," said Coach Clark. "She is also aggressive on the base pads and will be a threat to steal whenever she gets on base."

PaLaura graduated on the B Honor Roll at Shroder High School and received recognition for Outstanding Academic Performance. Athletically, she earned letters in three sports including baseball, basketball, and volleyball.

"PaLaura has the potential to be one of those players that will make an immediate impact on our team. She has a great personality, a strong work ethic, and has proven herself both athletically and academically. We are excited and pleased to have PaLaura as a member of our team," said Coach Clark.
