Volleyball Defeats KCU to Claim First Region Title

CIRCLEVILLE, OH - The OCU Women's Volleyball team enjoyed a historic weekend as the Blazers defeated perennial power and defending champion, Kentucky Christian University, to lay claim to their first ever Mid-East Region Volleyball Championship.

The two rivals battled back and forth in what will go down as the most memorable volleyball match to ever be played on the OCU campus to date.  KCU won the first set 25-23 but the Trailblazers responded by winning set #2 by a score of 25-21 and set #3 by a score of 25-23 to a take a 2-1 advantage.  The defending champions from Grayson, Kentucky rallied back in set four, winning 25-22 to force the winner-take-all fifth set.

After trailing 10-8 in the fifth and final set, OCU Head Coach Dave Hopewell refocused and rallied his troops during a well placed timeout.  The Blazers responded and came out of that timeout on a mission, and rallied to tie the score at 12-12.  The Blazers then put KCU away for good with the final two points to claim the first women's regional championship in OCU history.
