Women's Volleyball Wins Season Opener
CIRCLEVILLE, OH - The OCU women's volleyball team faced a much improved Southern State squad on Wednesday night in their season opener. The Trailblazers came into the contest after making big strides in their preseason and it proved to be an exciting opening match for them.
OCU came out early in the first game and were able to take care of business, denying a late charge by Southern State as the Trailblazers went on to win. Game 2 proved to be the most pivotal in the match as the momentum swung back and forth. With OCU trailing 23-21, head coach Dave Hopewell called a timeout.
"I just told them to look the opposing server in the eyes and hope that the ball would come to them. Instead of getting tight or nervous, we regained confidence and made a big rally."
The timeout proved to change momentum once and for all as OCU rallied back from a 23-21 deficit to comeback and win game two 27-25. The Blazers closed the door on the Patriots in the third and final game to complete the sweep.
The Blazers (1-0) are back in action again on Friday when they take on Clark State at 6:00PM in the Maxwell Leadership Center.
