OCU Women's Soccer Reach Regional Finals

OCU Women's soccer ended it's 2nd year of existence this past weekend.  It may not have gone the way they had hoped, but they still kept a standard, Regional Finalists.  In 2009, the women lost in double overtime to Kentucky Christian in the regional finals.  This year, the women lost again to KCU.  With 2 substitutes and 5 starters out for the season, Coach Murton looks at the positives.  "It has been a real tough year with injuries.  On top of that it seemed like we couldn't catch any breaks, but these girls fought hard all the way through.  At one point we played with 10 girls for a few games because we were so banged up.  So I am proud how they fought through that and to see us make it to the Regional Finals again is a big deal", mention Coach Murton.

The women won the semifinal game against Johnson Bible College in a PK shootout 3-1.  The score was 1-1 after 110 minutes of play in which OCU saw Heidi Bryan score a goal that was assisted by Christine Myers.  The win assured them a spot in the final against KCU.

In the final, KCU controlled most of the possession but OCU's defense, led by Liesi South, kept KCU out of the goal and frustrated.  KCU's only goal came from a PK in which an OCU player was called for a foul in the penalty box.  The lone goal sent OCU home but focused for the 2011 campaign.
