Ohio Christian University Softball Announces Conference Honorees

The Ohio Christian University Trailblazer softball program is pleased to announce the recognition of several of its players with Ohio Collegiate Athletic Conference All-Conference honors. The honors were given during the conference banquet on Friday, May 13, 2011 in Springfield, Ohio.

Freshman pitcher MacKenna Jennings was selected as the Trailblazer's representative on the All Conference First Team. Jennings was the primary pitcher for the Trailblazers this season and her performance and leadership had a tremendous impact on the improvement and success of the team this season. "There were several positive comments about our program and the improvements we have made," said Head Coach Emory Clark. "Whenever the other coaches talked about our program, almost without fail, the conversation included MacKenna and her contribution to our improvement and our success." Jennings was also selected as one of four Freshman of the Year for the conference.

Three Trailblazers were honored with second team selections. Sophomore second base player Elizabeth Smith was honored for the second year in a row. Freshman shortstop PaLaura Parker and freshman catcher Sarah Williams were selected as award winners for the first time. Freshman third base player Rachel Briggs was also selected as All Conference honorable mention. "These three ladies definitely deserve these honors," said Coach Clark. "Their presence on the field made a tremendous contribution to who we were as a team this year."

OCU Head Coach Emory Clark received nominations for OCAC Softball Coach of the Year. "I felt honored that my colleagues, my fellow coaches, recognize the hard work we have put into our program," said Coach Clark. "I consider it a tremendous honor, and privilege, to get to coach these young ladies and to coach at Ohio Christian University. I am very thankful to our University administration for their support as we build this program. I am sure we can look forward to continued improvement and greater success in the future."
