OCU Drops Two Regional Contests

Ohio Christian lost its first match of the 2010 season at Johnson Bible College 23-25, 23-25, 25-23, 25-15. OCU then traveled to Powell, Tennessee where they fell short in a 10-25, 17-25, 25-27 loss to the Crown College.

In the Johnson Bible match, Ashley Southard led the team with 10 kills and Hillary Stump tallied 8 kills in the loss to JBC. Kristen Uetrecht led the defensive effort with 26 digs and 3 blocks. The team achieved a season high 91% service percentage.

"The team maintained good energy throughout the whole match, but when you give up 16 points on blocking errors that shows that the focus was not where it needed to be," said Coach Wes Brothers. "JBC definitely showed us some good things that we can do and also pointed out some areas that need to be worked on."

The Crown College match wrapped up OCU's Tennessee weekend.

Ashley Southard led the defensive effort with 2 solo blocks and 14 digs.

"We came out flat in the first set, but picked up the energy level as the match wore on," Coach Brothers stated. "Playing three matches this weekend was very helpful to the volleyball program. If we want to be competitive, we have to face the fatigue and competition head on and muster our determination to fight through and come out on top. This is a good lesson to learn early."

Ohio Christian Volleyball's next home match is Tuesday, September 14th versus Kentucky Christian.
