OCU Volleyball Outcome from Grace Bible Tournament

OCU Volleyball loses to IU Northwest

Ohio Christian University lost in three sets to the Red Hawks 16-25, 21-25, 18-25.

Sophomore Meredith Fairrow matched her season high 32% hitting percentage and co-led the team with Linette Shetler earning 7 kills each. Freshman Mary Ashbaucher led the offense with 26 assists. Freshmen Rachel Briggs led the defense with 22 digs.

"We came out strong in the first set and had a 7-3 lead," said Coach Brothers. "Coming out of the Red Hawks timeout, we had trouble connecting on the offensive side of the ball. The team had good desire and hung with IU-Northwest in the 2nd set."

OCU Volleyball drops to host team Grace Bible College

Ohio Christian University dropped match to tournament host Grace Bible College in four sets 16-25, 26-24, 21-25, 20-25.

Freshman Ashley Southard led the team with 10 kills and 3 aces. Freshman Rachel Briggs tallied 14 digs.

"GBC has a few strong hitters that gave us trouble," said Coach Brothers. "We picked up our aggressiveness on serving and attacking the 2nd set. Grace also had several unforced errors. In the third set, we were up 20-19 but made a few mistakes late that cost us the win. We got down early in the fourth and rallied late to give ourselves a chance."

OCU Volleyball faces #8 Moody Bible Institute

Ohio Christian University played #8 ranked Moody Bible Institute and lost in 3 sets 11-25, 12-25, 15-25.

Sophomores Linette Shetler and Meredith Fairrow combined for 12 kills. Freshman Rachel Briggs contributed 12 digs and earned a season high 93% serve receive percentage.

"Moody is an all-around tough team in a very tough conference," stated Coach Wes Brothers. "Four of the Mid-West conference's seven teams are in the top 15. Moody has the best hitter we have seen all season in Audra Lehman who is ranked 4th nationally. I am really proud of a few defensive adjustments the team made in light of Moody's offensive strategy and the never give up attitude OCU had. We can work on the skills, but heart is hard to coach into a player."

OCU has an overall record of 8-13.

Ohio Christian University Volleyball's next home match is Tuesday, October 12th versus OCAC opponent OSU-Marion.
