Ohio Christian Volleyball Wins Pool in 2010 Home Tournament

Ohio Christian University is host to the 2010 Trailblazer Classic and entered pool play on Friday, September 24. OCU earned the 1st seed with two match wins.

In the first match, OCU faced fellow NCCAA opponent Central Bible College from Springfield, Missouri. OCU defeated CBC in three straight sets with scores of 25-21, 25-23, 25-17.

"We had a lot of unforced errors and had trouble getting our offense up and running," stated Coach Wes Brothers. "Aggressive serving and patient defense kept us ahead."

Freshmen Ashley Southard led the offense with 9 kills followed by Sophomore Linette Shetler who tallied 8 kills. Freshmen Tiffany Mosher led the team with 4 aces and 14 digs.

The second pool play match paired the OCU Trailblazers against the NAIA Berea College Mountaineers. The Trailblazers dispatched the Mountaineers in 3 sets with scores of 25-6, 25-16, 25-21.

Sophomore Linette Shetler tallied a season high 9 aces and had 8 kills. Freshmen Mary Ashbaucher also earned a team high 14 digs and 8 kills in the win.

"The team picked apart the Mountaineer defense and showed some good things that have been missing," said Coach Brothers. "Everyone had a chance to be a part of this victory and showed great poise in the win."

Ohio Christian University Women's volleyball has an overall record of 6-5.
