OCU Partners with Berger Hospital in Haiti Relief Efforts
As Ohio Christian University's Disaster Management program is getting ready to send another team to Haiti, the work continues full speed here in Pickaway County. Tina Pierce, ED Clinical Coordinator at Berger Hospital began a collection drive of medical supplies for the situation in Haiti. Pierce gathered a large amount but soon discovered that while the supplies were abundant, getting them on the ground in Haiti was difficult. Pierce stated "A lot of this stuff is still good, but we have to throw it away because it hit its expiration date."
The Disaster Management program at OCU stepped up to the challenge and volunteered to organize and ship the supplies to Haiti. Thad Hicks, Director of the Disaster Management program added, "We can do nothing without the assistance of our community." Just this week, the Disaster Management program collected two pallets full of medical supplies, weighing approx. 400 lbs from Berger Hospital. Tina Pierce added, "We can continue to collect medical supplies as long as you can send them to where they are needed."
