Follow Christ, Lead the Way


This minor is for students who possess skills in musical performance and want to improve those skills by focusing on applied study and participation in performing ensembles. Entrance into this program is contingent on a successful audition. Students who pass the Theory Placement Test take 3 hours from the following electives instead of MU102: Music Theory III, Applied Electives, Ensemble Electives, Music Appreciation, or Fine Arts Appreciation

    Attendance at on- and off-campus musical performances. Appreciation of a variety of musical literature and concert formats, and observation of elements that help create an effective performance.
    Offered: Every semester Prerequisite: None


    Basic musicianship and the elements of music theory including the staff, scales, intervals, keys, signatures, etc. Open to non-music majors.
    Offered: Spring Prerequisite: None
    Continuation from Music Fundamentals, including study of chords in major and minor keys, voice leading, beginning four-part writing, and harmonic progressions.
    Offered: Fall Prerequisite: MU102 Music Fundamentals with a C or higher, successful music theory placement exam, or consent of the instructor
    Continuation of MU103, including study of cadences, phrases and periods, non-chord tones, diatonic seventh chords, and secondary dominant chords.
    Offered: Spring Prerequisite: MU103 with a grade of C or higher
    Study and practice to develop the skill of accurately sight-reading melodies through the solfege system and melodic dictation.
    Offered: Fall Prerequisite: MU102 or successful music theory placement exam
    Continuation of MU105.
    Offered: Spring Prerequisite: MU105 with a grade of C or higher.
