Dione Parker Bennett’s voice has been heard in opera, recitals, and oratorio both nationwide and internationally. She has performed Micaela in Bizet’s Carmen, Bess in Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess; Mimi in Puccini’s La Boheme; Suor Genevieffa in Puccini’s Suor Angelica, to name a few.
A soloist in Handel’s Messiah, Beethoven’s Mass in C, Schubert’s Mass in G, Dubois’ Seven Last Words of Christ, and Mozart’s Vespers, she has been featured with such orchestras as the Warren Philharmonic, Akron Symphony, Metropolitan Chamber Orchestra, Columbus Symphony, Eastern Illinois Symphony, as well as Cleveland Opera and Opera Western Reserve.
Bennett has just been named Artistic Director of Opera Project Columbus, holds a Bachelor and Master of Music degree from the University of Akron and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Illinois. Further study has taken her to the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria. Previously a member of the faculty at Ashland University, she is now part of the voice faculty at Capital University Conservatory of Music, Mt. Vernon Nazarene University, and is in her first year at Ohio Christian University.
