Dr. Valerie Wilson is chair of the teacher education department. She also maintains her Reading Recovery Teacher Leader position and teaches the reading methods courses at OCU. She teaches two primary children several times a week in keeping with the Reading Recovery program.
As an undergraduate, Wilson entered a pre-med program at Miami University in Oxford, OH. It was only after graduating from this program with a major in zoology that she received the Lord's direction to pursue teacher education. She worked three years as a fifth grade teacher and then left the field to raise a family.
She returned to education by way of earning a Master of Arts in Early and Middle Childhood at the Ohio State University and teaching sixth grade. In the second year after completing this degree, 1983, she was invited by then-president, Doug Carter, to come to Circleville Bible College to begin a teacher education program. After serving there and also at Ohio State and Shawnee State, she returned to the now Ohio Christian University in 2006 to help the University's teacher education program gain both State and National accreditation. These goals were completed in September, 2010.
Dr. Wilson is married, has two children and two grandchildren. Her favorite pasttme is reading.
