RN-BSN Program Preparing Christian Servant Nurses
Ohio Christian University is pleased to announce the start of the new RN-BSN (Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing) program through the College of Adult and Graduate Studies. OCU is dedicated to redefining and preparing nurses to deliver holistic Christian caring with a heart for servant leadership.
“Our nursing leadership and faculty intend for OCU BSN graduates to become known as distinctive Christian servant leaders in the nursing field,” said Heidi Frederick, Assistant Vice President and Dean.
The conceptual framework of the program includes a focus on treating the human as unique, having dignity and worth and entitled to health care. Nurses need to take into account the physical, social, economic and political environments as defined by the client to deliver culturally sensitive, and technological advanced care. OCU believes the definition of health varies, and therefore, all patients have a right to participate in the decisions affecting their health, while keeping safety at the forefront. Finally, OCU regards nursing as both art and science with an emphasis on compassionate and conscientious Christian caring.
For Terri McCarley, a student in OCU’s first nursing cohort, those Christian values made the difference in her decision to attend OCU to advance her nursing career.
“Our role is to help and care for others. God wants us to be servants to those in need or less fortunate, so I believe faith plays a big role in what we nurses do every day.” McCarley said.
