2019 Graduates Celebrate Commencement image

On Saturday, May 4, 2019, Ohio Christian University held its 70th-year Commencement Ceremonies at the university’s main campus in Circleville, Ohio. There were 664 associate, bachelor, and master level graduates invited to the Ohio ceremony that earned their degrees.

Kristen Muzzy was the 2019 Commencement Address speaker. Muzzy is the President and co-founder of the World Alliance for the Volunteer Economy or WAVE. As a survivor of human trafficking, Muzzy spoke about God’s love and the plan He had for her trials in bringing her closer to Him. In her early life, she felt like the odds were against her, but God had an extraordinary plan. Her goal in life has been “to never give up and always yield to God’s calling,” the same advice she imparted to the 2019 graduates.

As soon as Muzzy prompted, the crowd came to its feet to honor the sacrifice, support, and love of the family members and friends that stood by the side of each graduate. Muzzy’s speech to the graduates emphasized that dedication to our faith is a focal point of our future careers and choices. Her address encouraged each graduate to know their capabilities, saying, “You are enough. God moves mountains; what can’t He do with us?”

Each year, OCU Honor Graduates are selected by the faculty. These graduates represent all the ideals of Ohio Christian University and must have distinguished themselves in academic achievement, Christian service, and leadership potential. Four 2019 Honor Graduates for the traditional program were selected, representing various academic disciplines: Ariel Young, Religion; Julia Brown, Psychology; Kaleb Blevins, Business and Government; and Karee Neff, Teacher Education. Catherine DeLorco was chosen as the Honor Graduate representing the AGS program.

I felt I could better advance myself elsewhere where I could enroll in higher-level studies. I wanted to integrate a valuable university education with my religious values. I sought
