

Ohio Christian University’s commitment to education isn’t exclusively highereducation; this commitment includes every stage of a person’s learning experience.That’s why OCU is a dedicated to “Kids on Campus” – a summer enrichmentprogram for first through fourth graders that allows them to experience academiclife on a college campus, while improving their math, science, art, and technologyskills.The program is a partnership with Pickaway HELPS (Higher Education for LearnersPartnership) and Ohio Christian University with generous support from PPGindustries.Campus rarely lacks youthful exuberance, but having Kids on Campus really broughta child-rich energy. It wasn’t just the adults who enjoyed having the kids around; thekids had fun too. Here are some of the student responses on the end-of-coursesurvey responding to the questions: What did you like best? “Friendly teachers andkids.” “Experiments!” “Going on the tour of campus.” “I liked everything to the moonand back 2,000 times!!!” Additionally, students said they felt “smart,” “excited,”“grown-up,” “like I’m in college,” “I’m too old next year— boo!”“This is a meaningful experience across the board to students of all ages,” saidChristy Mills, executive director of Pickaway HELPS. Mills adds, “The elementarylevel kids participated in lots of hands-on fun activities with the bonus ofestablishing an early familiarity and comfort level with a college campus.” Accordingto Mills, “Each year enrollment has grown from the first year when 20 participated.In the past we added afternoon sessions and technology, then this year we addedart, and again had more students participate in Kids on Campus than ever before.Plans are already in process for the addition of music classes in 2016.”OCU is looking forward to hosting the 10th year of Kids on Campus next summer. Second Annual Youth Leadership Conference

Over fifty youth leaders from more than thirty churches and organizations
converged on the Ohio Christian University campus for the second annual Youth
Leadership Conference. Anticipation for the conference was met with engaging
and relevant information applicable to those in attendance. The subject
of the day was the importance of actively engaging youth with the reality of
Biblical Truth in these formative years. Dr. Walt Mueller, expert in youth
culture and President of the Center for Parent/Youth Understanding, began the
conference with a dive into youth culture and practical ways

Ohio Christian University will be hosting The Silver Ring Thing's UNALTERED
Tour, an event for teens and their parents, in the Ministry and Performing
Arts Center on Saturday, April 13th. The mission of the tour is to lead
students into the fullness of life and their goal is to empower a generation
to know the truth and experience freedom and flourishing through the Gospel
of Jesus Christ.
Acknowledging the reality that today’s students are anxious, broken, and
confused, and that they are shaping their identities in likes, comments,
affirmation, gender, sexuality and more, UNALTERED

OCU Graduate Update - Justin Hamilton

Justin is a 2016 graduate, earning his Bachelor of Arts in Middle Childhood
Education (grades 4-9) with concentrations in English Language Arts and
Social Studies. Justin has obtained his license and is now serving as a
substitute for all of Pickaway County, schools in Ross County, such as Unioto
and Zane Trace, and also Teays Valley School District. Aside from subbing,
Justin is working and just finished a collection of H.P. Lovecraft novels. He
has enjoyed having more time for family and his church as well. Keep up the
good work Justin!

The Teacher Education Department had a meeting with all students Wednesday,
October 19th. Topics on the agenda were new CAEP accreditation standards,
ideas for a TE spring trip, updates on the potential AYA programs,
information about supplies and materials that are available to them.
A survey was taken concerning student retention and degree completion.

I am currently working at New Beginnings Christian school in Columbus Ohio,
teaching first grade. There are countless times I refer back to my education
while in the classroom. It is so encouraging to know that I still have a
great support system at OCU, I know that if I ever needed anything they would
be there in a heartbeat! I am thankful for each one of my professors that
took time to help me achieve my goals and dreams!

OCU Students Minister Through Drama

Ohio Christian University is excited about launching a new semester of the
drama ministry travel team, Living Parables. This group is made up of 14
residential undergraduate students (two teams), including the Student Leaders
Brittany Twining and Haley Fowler. The group is under the direction of Mrs.
Bethany Bolin, who is a graduate of OCU and possesses many years of teaching
and leading drama.
Living Parables ministers in churches, schools and youth events presenting
sketches of real-life circumstances which focus on the gospel as well as
moral values.

Students Serve on Summer Camp Teams

The Ohio Christian University Summer Camp Teams have now wrapped up their
ministry for 2016. A group of 49 OCU students ministered at 27 camps this
summer in seven different states—Ohio, Kentucky, New York, Pennsylvania,
West Virginia, Georgia, and Indiana.
The students were hand-selected through an application and interview process
and received over 50 hours of training in preparation.
Student Camp Leader, Mekayla Deffenbaugh, shared her experience with camp
teams saying, "OCU Camp Teams have given me the opportunity to expand my
