2013 Ohio Christian University graduate and former Disaster Management and Relief student Tempest Norris recently had her work published in the quarterly academic journal, Healing Ministry. The issue was dedicated to prose and poetry surrounding emotional trauma. Ms. Norris had stiff competition for the issue and beat out a number of other submissions to earn the spot in Healing Ministry.Tempest’s poem, “What Would Happen” was originally written for one of her disaster classes at OCU. The course instructor, Thad Hicks stated, “Tempest is very talented. I knew the first time I saw her work, she had a unique and valuable voice that needed to be shared.”A proven and effective tool for emergency and disaster management professionals, Healing Ministry is a quarterly journal for those who work with individuals or groups suffering from trauma, sickness, death and dying. Healing Ministry offers a balanced mix of relevant articles, timely research, field studies, commentaries and human interest stories on the power of faith to guide and comfort those in need.

Ohio Christian University held its first ever Summer Celebration Picnic on Friday, July 16, 2021. This was a time for OCU Alumni, donor partners and community members to get together and enjoy Food, Friends and Fellowship. In spite of some scattered storms, many people of all ages gathered together. Melvin Maxwell was known as a powerful man of God and prayer warrior by those who knew him. On Saturday, July 4, 2020, Dr. Maxwell graduated from this life to his eternal home and was united with his Savior whom he loved. He was born in Georgetown, Ohio, on November 15, 1921, and grew up during the Great Depression. Though his mother died at an early age, his father was a godly man and raised him and his brother Millard to follow Christ no matter how hard the situation. Since then David has been an evangelist in many churches, camps, and colleges, as well as a servant in mission fields for 25 years. Since 2015, Rev. Dean is serving as OCU’s Director of Church Relations and Executive Director of the Toler Leadership Institutes. Madeline McCain, an Ohio Christian University AYA (Adolescent and Young Adult) education major with a concentration in English, recently accepted a position as an intern at The Circleville Herald. She will begin her duties by learning their computer system and typing police and court reports for the paper. Allyson is a 2016 graduate, earning her Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Education (PreK-3). Allyson is now a 2nd grade teacher at the International School of Tegucigalpa, Honduras, and loving every minute of it!  Allyson completed her student teaching at IST as part of our new Student Teaching Abroad program. IST is a private Christian school in the capitol city.  Allyson lives with other teachers and spends many of her weekends going on exciting trips in the rainforests, waterfalls, and to the beach as well as all the normal things like shopping and going to the movies and, of

Justin is a 2016 graduate, earning his Bachelor of Arts in Middle Childhood Education (grades 4-9) with concentrations in English Language Arts and Social Studies. Justin has obtained his license and is now serving as a substitute for all of Pickaway County, schools in Ross County, such as Unioto and Zane Trace, and also Teays Valley School District. Aside from subbing, Justin is working and just finished a collection of H.P. Lovecraft novels. He has enjoyed having more time for family and his church as well. Keep up the good work Justin!
