Dr. Malon Mimms Provides $2.5 Million Gift image

OCU is pleased to announce that Atlanta businessman Dr. Malon Mimms has gifted a 2.55 million dollar building and property in Atlanta, Georgia.The building is located on I-75 and will be used to establish the second Georgia educational site for OCU.  In giving the gift, Dr. Mimms expressed a hope to provide a great opportunity for the Atlanta area by investing in Ohio Christian University.  Dr. Mimms also expressed that he hopes others will be inspired to give to the cause of Christian education.OCU will use the building to offer AIM evening classes designed for busy adults.

The first Georgia educational site is located at Rock Springs Church in Milner and began six months ago.Ohio Christian University is one of the fastest growing universities in Ohio.  Over the past five years enrollment has grown from 400 to 2,400.  With a heritage dating back to 1948, Ohio Christian University offers a complete education that develops students intellectually, professionally and spiritually. OCU offers degree programs designed to equip students to become leaders in their careers, communities, families and in the world. Students enrolled in OCU’s traditional undergraduate program attend classes at its main campus in Circleville, Ohio.  OCU’s Adult & Online Degree Programs (AIM) provides several campus locations in central Ohio and near Atlanta, Georgia, as well as fully online degree programs.

Last week, Ohio Christian University’s Atlanta site in Georgia was awarded Member of the Week by the Clayton County Chamber of Commerce for outstanding commitment and service to the community. President of the Chamber Monica Colbert presented the award with two other members of the chamber to the campus. The Atlanta site has been a member of the Chamber for four years and has worked hard to impact the surrounding community, which boast over 6000 businesses. Ohio Christian University (OCU) has received a $60,000 grant from an Ohio Foundation to develop a community garden project. Ohio Christian University agricultural and intercultural studies students will be hired to work on the project. The primary goal of this project is to train students to grow food for themselves and the world so they, in turn, can teach others. The old proverb, “Give a man a fish and he’ll eat for a day. Ohio Christian University seeks qualified faculty of the highest caliber. In the fall semester, four OCU faculty earned doctorates. Congratulations to Drs. Jacob Dodson, Sylvia McDonald, David Uhl, and Kelvin Webb. These faculty lead the way in demonstrating life-long learning for their students. Dr. Jacob D. Dodson has been an adjunct faculty member since 2009. He earned the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Christian Theology from Regent University. Ohio Christian University was visited March 29-31 by the Higher Learning Commission, which accredits all universities in Ohio. The visiting team gave OCU a glowing report. The team met with administrators, staff, trustees, and students along with alumni and community leaders. This is the third team to visit Ohio Christian University this year, with the Ohio Board of Regents recommending 10 years of reaccreditation and the national Teacher Education Accreditation Council recommending full accreditation approval of Ohio Christian University's Teacher Education program.
