OCU Hosts 7th Annual Festival of Carols and Messiah image
Ohio Christian University will host its seventh annual “Festival of Carols and Messiah,” Saturday, December 1, at 7:00 pm, in the beautifully decorated Maxwell Center.  Guests will enjoy the artistry of the OCU Chorale, joined by members of the Circleville Community Choir and a live 40-piece orchestra.Dr. Rodney Sones, director of the Chorale and the Community Choir, will lead the evening’s music – festive orchestrations of well-loved Christmas music, beautiful acapella numbers, and Christmas selections from Handel’s Messiah.  Soloists for the evening include Dione Bennett, Carolyn Redman and Andrew Blosser, as well as OCU students Ashley Sumner and Dylan Coyle.   Those who arrive early will enjoy the artistry of our Festival orchestra and other musicians and University ensembles.Ohio Christian University’s music department is headed by Dr. John Anthony, a Doctor of Musical Arts graduate of the University of Georgia.  His teaching experience includes the University of Georgia and Penn State University, and his professional performing experience includes the Gainesville Symphony, University of Georgia Brass Ensemble, Gwinette Ballet Theater Orchestra, Lancaster Festival, and Columbus Symphony.Dr. Sones leads the OCU Chorale and the Circleville Community Chorus.  He holds the Doctor of Music Ministry from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and has led choral music education and choral ministry for over 20 years. Sones has taught church music and voice at a number of schools, including Campbellsville University, and The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary’s School of Church Music and Worship. This is his fourth year to lead the Festival of Carols.Sones comments, “Each year the Chorale is an exciting group of students to work with.  We have had tremendous fun preparing the selections for this year’s concert.  Community participation continues to increase each year, with many wonderful singers from area choirs.  Come enjoy the season with us.  I am sure the concert will be a blessing to you as you begin your Christmas celebration.”Concert admission is free. In the spirit of Christmas giving, the University requests that attendees bring canned food items to share with local ministries who support needy families in our area.Immediately following the concert, the campus Christmas tree and Christmas displays will be lit.  These displays are sponsored by local businesses, the Chamber of Commerce, and Ohio Christian University.Ohio Christian University is one of the fastest g rowing universities in Ohio.  Over the past five years enrollment has increased by phenomenal numbers.With a heritage dating back to 1948, Ohio Christian University offers a complete education that develops students intellectually, professionally and spiritually.  OCU offers degree programs designed to equip students to become leaders in their careers, communities, families and in the world.Students enrolled in OCU’s traditional undergraduate program attend classes at its main campus in Circleville, Ohio.  OCU’s Adult and Graduate studies Program offers 12 campus locations in the surrounding region and most recently, in Atlanta, Georgia.  Online degree programs are also available.

The Ohio Christian University family with community neighbors celebrated the Christmas holiday season on November 30 at University’s Maxwell Center at 1476 Lancaster Pike, Circleville, 43113. Celebrants sang favorite carols around the lighted Christmas tree, sharing good cheer while remembering the reason for the season - Christ's birth. After viewing awe-inspiring fireworks displays, the merry-makers flowed into Maxwell Center for hot chocolate, cookie decorating, storytelling, and for children visits with Santa Claus.
