Ohio Christian University hosted its eighth Annual Festival of Carols and Messiah on Saturday, December 7, at 7:00 pm, in the beautifully decorated Maxwell Center. Guests were treated to the artistry of the OCU Chorale, joined by members of the Circleville Community Choir and an excellent 40-piece orchestra including OCU students, faculty members and area musicians. In the spirit of season, the Festival was the university’s gift to the community with one request. Guests were asked to bring canned food items to share with local ministries who support needy families in the area.Dr. Rodney Sones, director of the Chorale and the Community Choir, led the evening’s music – festive orchestrations of well-loved Christmas music, beautiful acapella numbers, and Christmas selections from Handel’s Messiah. Soloists for the evening included Carolyn Redman, Andrew Blosser, and Dione Bennet, as well as OCU students. Those who arrived early enjoyed the added blessing of a prelude by the Festival orchestra, along with other musicians and University ensembles.Sones commented, “Once again, the OCU Chorale is enjoying a year of growth numerically and musically. We had tremendous fun preparing this year’s concert. Community participation continues to bring many wonderful singers. We hope the concert was a blessing to all who attended as the community celebrates the Christmas season.”
