Exultant graduates of OCU Class of 2018!

Ohio Christian University’s April 28 commencement filled the sunny, still chilly, spring day as 392 students graduated in two sessions from the University’s on-campus and online degree programs.  The entire class of 2018 numbers 770.

Participants in the commencement represented twenty-four states.  The oldest graduate was 73 years old; the youngest was 20.  Of those present, one hundred and eleven received associate degrees; two hundred and fourteen received bachelor degrees; and, sixty-seven received master degrees.

Degrees conferred included Associates of Arts in Business, Christian Ministry, Human Services, and Interdisciplinary Studies, as well as Bachelors of Arts in Business, Criminal Justice, English, History, Human Services, Interdisciplinary Studies, Leadership and Ministry, Political Science, Psychology, Substance Abuse Counseling, and Nursing.

Graduate students received Master degrees in Business Administration and Management, in Ministry, as well as dual Master degrees in Business Administration and Ministry.

Many students received various Honors distinctions for their individual accomplishments.

As graduating students crossed the Center’s wide stage, President Kulaga presented them with their diplomas, and they quickly shared broad smiles and warm handshakes, commemorated by a photograph.

Well-wishing families and friends of the throng of graduates filled to standing-room-only the capacious facility.  Faculty in colorful academic regalia proceeded to the front of the auditorium, accompanied by Edward Elgar’s Pomp & Circumstance, which the University Chamber Orchestra performed with flair.

University Board of Trustees Chairman Dr. Thomas Hermiz gave the invocation.  Pastor Rob Paugh, father of a graduate, and Patsy Mayo, mother of another, read selected scriptures.  The University Chorale sang Charles Wesley’s And Can It Be, with Dr. Dione Bennett directing.

After greeting everyone, President Kulaga encouraged the graduates:  “As you go your separate ways, make wise decisions based on Scripture and righteousness, and have great success in what God calls each of you to do.”  He then introduced Mr. Bert Lindsay, who attributes his great business success to God’s favor and gave an inspiring address.  Lindsay invited graduates to consider the importance of ‘redoing’ until they succeed in what God calls them to do. “Be reassured that God is for you.  Rejoice that you are part of something big.  Be proud of graduating from OCU.  Pray for God’s favor in your lives – for peace, prosperity, and well-being.”

Provost Dr. Hank Kelly and Vice President Dr. Bradford Sample presented each graduate to President Kulaga for conferring of their degree.  When he finished, Kulaga instructed all graduates to move their tassels from right to left.  As they did so, everyone broke into loud cheers of excitement and gladness.  Alumni Association President Michelle Blanton congratulated the new graduates, inviting all to join in fellowship with alumni Trailblazers.

The ceremonies concluded with the University Chorale singing Perfect Praise (O Lord How Excellent) by Jeffrey LaValley with Taylor Kehoe, soprano soloist.

Dr. Marvin L. Miller, Sr., Regional Dean of Central Ohio, gave the benediction, and the University Chamber Orchestra accompanied the recessional with Johann Sebastian Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 in G Major.

By Krista Williams In a time where our country and humanity is living in a great amount of fear, being at OCU gives me so much hope. I find peace in being here as I look around the classrooms- I see the future. I sit and look at all of the hardworking students and how each one of them has a divine purpose they are preparing for. A purpose given specially to them because of their skills and abilities. A purpose given to them because our King knows what He is doing. I sit in a class of 20 people and think, "there are 20 world changers right here." It amazes me to think what we, as

By Jordyn Williams (pictured) In the years approaching college, the weight of the world is on us teens. Our stress is magnified as the expectations for college readiness intensifies. Our days grow longer and our nights shorten as we return home from a seven hour day of school only to spend additional hours studying and completing homework for multiple AP and honors classes. We wake up early the next morning to repeat the cycle. Work-free weekends are infrequent when they have become filled with youth leadership group gatherings, club meetings, community service, and SAT/ACT prep. The
