Columbus Symphony Orchestra Holiday Pops Spectacular at OCU

The beloved Columbus Symphony holiday tradition of Holiday Pops returns in 2021 with spectacular performances of popular holiday songs and classic carols. Conductor Ron Jenkins will lead the Columbus Symphony in performances of “Winter Wonderland,” “We Wish You a Merry Christmas,” “Sleigh Ride,” “All I Want for Christmas is You,” and many more. 

About The Columbus Symphony Orchestra:

Since 1951, the Columbus Symphony (CSO) has been proud to serve as central Ohio’s flagship music performance organization. The CSO’s musicians, conductors, chorus, and world-renowned guest artists enrich the central Ohio community through extraordinary talent, passion, dedication, and the highest standards of musicianship. Living and working in the community, CSO musicians are interwoven throughout the region’s cultural fabric, accompanying performances by other companies, performing in other local orchestras, and teaching and coaching young musicians.

Guided by the artistic vision of Music Director Rossen Milanov, the CSO offers four programming areas – Masterworks, Pops, Picnic with the Pops, and Education/Community Engagement – that are targeted to appeal to diverse audiences from throughout central Ohio. This segmented approach, innovative within the American orchestra industry, is helping the CSO to reach new, younger, and more diverse audiences.

The CSO is integral to the community, and plays a central role in Columbus’ vibrant arts scene. Our concerts and programs served over 159,000 central Ohioans; 2.3 million reached; 28,000 children, families, and teachers. Our programming includes classical masterworks, new works by living composers, performances by popular artists from a variety of genres, education programs that enrich and promote children’s learning and development, and community engagement programming designed to make the CSO accessible to all.

Music Department Revamps Music Education Degree

The Ohio Christian University Music Department is pleased to announce that campus students can major in a newly revamped Bachelor of Science in Music Education. The new program began with the start of the Fall 2020 Semester and is a state-approved program leading to initial licensure with the Ohio Department of Education to teach K-12 Music Education. It has been streamlined to prioritize courses that Music Education majors need to be successful in their careers. Students in the Music Education Program can choose an Instrumental or Vocal/Choral Concentration and will hone their skills

On Thursday, April 12, sixty-nine students attended Ohio Christian University’s annual Scholarship Banquet.  Vice President for Advancement Bill Pugh hosted the event.  President Jon S. Kulaga presented scholarship awards. Ohio Christian University students practiced service-above-self on their Ralph C. Starkey Community Action Day (CAD) again this year, vitalizing the University’s mission of benefiting others through acts of service that build and strengthen character. Local resident and friend of Ohio Christian University, Mr. Harry Canfield donated a beautiful Baldwin Model L grand piano to the University’s Music Department.  According to Mr. Canfield, the piano was his wife Eileen’s favorite piano. Eileen was a lifelong pianist who blessed many in her church as well as local nursing homes with her piano playing.  A bronze plaque fixed to the instrument states the following sentiment, “This piano was a source of hours of listening pleasure for many of us and was Eileen Canfield’s prized possession. ‘To God Be The Glory’.” Canfield’s decision to
