OCU Receives Music Grant image
Ohio Christian University (OCU) announced that the Miriam Ruggles Adkins Foundation of Pickaway County has awarded OCU a grant in order to support the concert activities of the university. Over the past six years, the OCU Music Department has actively endeavored to contribute to the musical culture of Pickaway County by hosting free concerts with musical artists from around the state and the nation.  “We are so excited and grateful that the Miriam Ruggles Adkins Foundation has made this gesture of support for our efforts to bring great music and musicians to Pickaway County,” said OCU Music Department Chair, Dr. John Anthony.  Anthony added, “In this time of economic uncertainty, it is reassuring to know that we will be able to continue to bring guest artists to our campus and to our community.” Concerts sponsored jointly by the Miriam Ruggles Adkins Foundation and OCU Music Department are open to the public and free of charge. The Miriam Ruggles Adkins Foundation was created in honor of Miriam Ruggles Adkins who was born in Circleville, Ohio, on December 1, l901, and lived her entire life in this community.  Her home at 610 South Court Street is known to locals as the “Castle.”  In 1933 she married Paul E. Adkins, a local attorney, and they became owners and breeders of thoroughbred and saddle horses.  For many years Miriam Adkins participated in various community activities.  From their inception she was especially involved with the Pickaway County Humane Society, the Pickaway County Y.M.C.A., and the Scioto Society, which produces the outdoor drama, TECUMSEH.  At her bequest the Miriam Ruggles Adkins Foundation was established in l989 through the Columbus Foundation, Inc., to benefit the residents of Pickaway County through support of civic, charitable, cultural, and educational programs.
