The Criminal Justice program at Ohio Christian University held its inaugural Advisory Council with several distinguished criminal justice professionals from local, state, and federal agencies, including U.S. Secret Service, Ohio State Highway Patrol, Ohio Department of Rehabilitation & Corrections, Fairfield County Municipal Court, Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office, Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office, and Circleville Police Department.
In order to most effectively serve students and ensure that the program provides the most current and relevant courses so that graduates are prepared to succeed in any professional criminal justice organization, the Criminal Justice department formed this Advisory Council which will advise the university on the appropriate strategic direction of the department through the review and evaluation of the program’s mission, objectives and goals. The council will also review the efficacy of academic programs, course offerings, initiatives, and curriculum.
Criminal Justice students had the opportunity to meet and speak with a few of the advisory council members during lunch. Students were able to receive some mentoring and advice related to career development, job-seeking activities, and hear about real-life experiences of these professionals.
One of the program’s senior students, Tyler Payne, valued the experience saying, “This was a great opportunity to hear from individuals who are actually in the workforce doing the jobs, we (the students) desire after graduating. They provided encouragement and gave us great insight into their careers and experiences.”
All of the attendees enjoyed their experience at OCU and are excited to further our partnership by enhancing courses along with offering valuable internship opportunities for students.
