CIRCLEVILLE, OH – Opening their home slate of games much later in the season than normal, the Ohio Christian University Trailblazers hosted the Crusaders of Great Lakes Christian College on Wednesday night. After a sizzling start, the Trailblazer saw their lead go away in the second half, as Great Lakes took the 85-77 win.
Looking for their first win of the year, the Trailblazers came out hot, forcing turnovers and hitting shots to build an early 11-0 advantage over Great Lakes. The Crusaders finally broke through with a bucket at the 16:25 mark.
After seeing their lead diminish to 17-12, the Trailblazers went on a 22-10 run to lead 39-22 with 8:29 left in the opening half. The Crusaders then cut away at the lead over the final stretch before halftime, trailing by only seven entering the break.
In the second half, the Crusaders' defense took over, holding the Trailblazers to limited looks while outscoring OCU by 15 in the final 20 minutes. At the 8:28 mark, the game was tied 62-62 before Great Lakes ended the night on a 23-15 run.
Offensively, Ben Casey (SO/West Jefferson, OH) led the way for OCU with 20 points and five rebounds. Devon Miller (FR/Grove City, OH) had his best performance of his young career, scoring 15 and grabbing seven rebounds. Justin Barksdale (JR/Fishers, IN) led the team in boards with 10, while also scoring 10 for his first double double of the season.
Next up, the Trailblazers will travel to the University of Rio Grande to participate in the Bevo Francis Classic. They will face Campbellsville Harrodsburg at 4:00 PM, then will return home to host Trinity International University on Saturday at 4:00 PM.
